Job Description:

JOBPadre Dam is seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician to join our Operations Team as an Electrician/Instrumentation and Control Technician.Incumbents are responsible for performing skilled electrical/electronic installations, repairs and maintenance on Padre Dam's water distribution pump stations, wastewater pumping stations, water recycling facility and facilities electrical systems. Duties include: troubleshooting electrical/electronic problems and repairing equipment and related systems, operating detection devices such as digital meters, infrared camera, megger, etc.; ability to document and prepare reports as necessary, operate CAD program in order to prepare, update and document changes to AS BUILTs, single-line diagrams, schematics, specifications, etc.. Other duties include: installing electrical/electronic equipment, motors, motor control centers, remote terminal units, seismic units, chlorination equipment, instrumentation, service entrance equipment and control and power wiring; monitoring the electrical/electronic operation of sewage lift stations and water pumping equipment; installing, repairing and maintaining radio telemetry systems; contacting the power companies on Time of Use (TOU) pumping, and power outages; monitoring load cell devices; performing operational tests on motors, valves, actuators, switchgear, motor control centers and related electrical systems; evaluating the condition of auxiliary equipment; inspecting work done by contractors; purchasing equipment and supplies required for projects; engineering/co-engineering electrical projects; calibrating instrumentation level/pressure transmitters and ultrasonic level/flow meters using control/office computers; responding to after-hours system emergencies; and such other duties as may be assigned.EXAMPLE OF DUTIESInstalls, troubleshoots problems and repairs electrical/electronic equipment and related systems which includes: 480 volt circuits, fractional to 600 HP motors and controls; monitoring the electrical functions of the water pumping equipment and sewage lift stations; performing operational tests on electrical/electronic equipment; performing routine electrical work; Responds to both on-duty and after-hours systems emergencies and coordinates and completes the necessary repairs.Operate and maintain diesel electric generators, transfer switches and related systems; assess the systems for any items that need attention. Perform intermediate level maintenance on emergency generators and systems to ensure they are ready for operation. Notify appropriate staff should additional items need attention.Designs/new installations or modifications to existing electrical systems and assists in the planning of electrical systems.Attends project engineering, construction, and performance meetings.Works with phone and power companies on related issues to include coordinating work to be done, power problems, power services, power outages and TOUCoordinates and inspects work done by contractors ensuring work meets all applicable laws, NEC codes, and Padre Dam specifications.Assists the SCADA Department with installation of components for the District's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and radio telemetry systems. Calibrates or programs electrical and electronic equipmentPurchases equipment and related materials and supplies. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge(position requirements at entry ):Electrical theory and principles and practicesCurrent National Electrical Code (NEC)OSHA Standards for Lockout/TagoutNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the WorkplaceOperation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electric motors and controls480 volt three phase electrical systemsInstrumentation & Control Processes (desirable)Diesel powered electrical generator operation and maintenancePV Panel installations and operationElectronic equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers and modems.Radio and communication systems and related equipmentSupervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systemsSkills (position requirements at entry):Installing, repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment, electric motors and controlsAbility to identify electrical hazards and work safely around electrical equipment and construction sitesPerforming major electrical work;Calibrating electronic equipment;Reading maps, blueprints, ladder, and wiring diagrams;Using electrical and electronic equipment such as volt meters, megger, IR camera, tone testing equipment and hand and power tools;Using computers and related software applications;Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information, and to receive work direction.Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and four years experience in installing and repairing equipment and related systems; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Licensing Requirements(position requirements at entry):Valid California Driver's License.Plant Maintenance Grade I certification from CWEA (within one year from date of hire)California Department of Public Health, Water Distribution Certification Grade I, (within two test cycles from date of hire);Certified Control Systems Technician from ISA highly desired.State of California General Electrician Certificate within 3 years of hireSUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONPositions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, oils, and work space restrictions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.Interviews for this position will be held at the beginning of September 2022.
